Gearbox has posted a list of what to expect in an upcoming free update for Borderlands 2 that prepares Pandora for its incoming Ultimate Vault Hunter DLC and a level cap increase to 61. Somewhat confusingly, a new Ultimate Vault Hunter mode will arrive in the patch everyone gets, but the similarly titled $5 DLC is where the extra levels, skill points, and weapons all reside.
Here's Gearbox's breakdown:
Changes in 4/2 Software Update (Free)
Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack (Free with Season Pass or $5 separately)
Gearbox also delved into the specifics of Ultimate Vault Hunter mode in a separate post :
Both the free patch and the DLC releases on April 2. The next DLC hits one month later, when that scary Krieg guy will jump down from his hiding spot and rip everyone's arms off.

Duplicating weapons, items, and money
Start a co-op game with at least one other player. Stand next to another player, and initiate a trade. Give them the desired weapons/items/money you would like to duplicate. Then, immediately quit the game without saving by exiting to the dashboard using the PS button. Since the game did not save after you traded the weapons/items/money, you will still have them, and the other player you traded them to will also have them. The other player can then give you weapons/items/money while using the same method. Repeat this as many times as desired. Note: Do not trade items near an auto save point to prevent the game from accidentally saving while trading the items.
Infinite Badass points
Note: This trick requires a character with at least $3 million. Create a new character, and start a game with both characters. Have the character with $3 million as player one and the new character as player two. Have player one trade $3 million to player two. You will get an extra 167 Badass points added to your profile. Then, have player two give the money back to player one. Next, have player two leave the game. Then, have player two join the game, but first delete the character player two was using, and create a new one before joining the game. Give the new character created for player two $3 million again to get another 167 Badass points. Repeat this as many times as desired.
Since Badass points are assigned to your profile and not a specific saved game file, it is possible to get an unlimited number of Badass points easily. Create a new character and have a second player join the game as a guest on controller two. Stand in front of the guest character with your main character, and keep activating a trade with each other by pressing Circle. Trades count whether you actually trade anything or not. Simply activate 'Trade' without actually offering anything to still have it count as a trade. Do this 50 times to get a total of 166 Badass points. Then, create a new character and repeat the process as many times as desired. You can delete all the unwanted created characters once you are finished using this trick. Note: You can also do this with dueling. Stand in front of the guest character with your main character, and start a duel. Win the duel, and repeat the process. Fifty duel victories will result in a total gain of 166 Badass points. This can be done even quicker by setting up the controller configuration so you can keep tapping [Melee/Attack] without changing your aim at the second player.
Easy XP
After completing the 'A Dam Fine Rescue' mission, you will find Sir Hammerlock inside Sanctuary offering a quest called 'Mighty Morphin', which involves taking an injector and injecting Varkid Cocoons with a special serum. Injecting the serum into a cocoon produces a Badass Varkid. Killing one yields around 1,900 XP during your first playthrough, depending on your level. As long as you do not complete or turn-in the quest, you can kill all the enemies, choose to 'Save and Quit', and reload the game to have the enemies respawn. Repeat this as many times as desired.
Quickly reaching Level 50 with new character
Defeat The Warrior with a Level 50 character. When you are given the option to either kill Jack or let Lilith kill him, jump into the lava. The game will then automatically be saved with Jack and The Warrior defeated. Next, choose the 'Save and Quit' option. When you choose to continue the game, you will start near Jack with the requirement to still kill him. Then, invite a character you want to easily level-up to 50. Once they have joined the game, have your Level 50 character kill Jack, wait three seconds, and then reset the system for the Level 50 character so the game cannot be saved. The new character will receive the XP given for killing Jack, but the Level 50 character's game will not be saved after killing Jack. Repeat this for approximately an hour to get the new character to Level 50.
Better weapons and items
Go to any slot machine after the game has recently been auto saved. Play the slot machine as many times as desired. If you do not like the weapons and/or items you won, simply quit the game without saving by exiting to the dashboard using the PS button. Then, continue your saved game to still have all the money you spent on slot machine. Repeat this process as many times as desired to get better weapons and items.
When turning in a mission that gives you a weapon as a reward, usually the stats of the weapon are randomly generated (and in some cases elements). Thus, if you do not like the weapon you are given after turning in a mission, simply quit the game without saving by exiting to the dashboard using the PS button before the game auto saves. Continue your game, and turn the mission in again to get a weapon with different stats. Repeat this until you get a weapon with desired stats and/or elements. -From: Psychotic Elf
Legendary (orange) loot locations
The following is a list of Legendary (orange) items that certain bosses and enemies in the game will drop, and the area(s) you can find those bosses/enemies. To increase your chances of getting a Boss or enemy listed below to drop a Legendary (orange) item, play Co-Op with four players. If you do not get the Boss/enemy to drop the item, leave the area and return to fight them again. Keep doing this (farming) until they drop the item(s). Note: There is a very small chance a Boss or enemy will drop a Legendary (orange) item. Thus, it can take a very long time to get them to drop the desired item. It is also possible to get some of these items from other enemies in the game. Additionally, there are certain bosses you cannot fight until you have completed the game (Terramorphous and Vermivorous the Invincible).
Assault Rifles
Pistols
Rocket Launchers
Shotguns
Sniper Rifles
SMG
Shields
Grenades
Class Mods
Relic
Have a saved game file from the original Borderlands on your hard drive to unlock the Veteran skins for all four characters using the option found under the 'Extras' menu.
Moxxi weapons
If you keep tipping Moxxi large amounts of money in Sanctuary (over $10,000), she will eventually give you a weapon. Try to tip after she stops talking. Once you get a weapon from her, you can fast travel to another area and then back to Sanctuary. Keep tipping her again to get another weapon. She only gives two types of weapons -- a fire elemental submachine gun and corrosive elemental submachine gun, but they should always have different stats. -From: Psychotic Elf
Carrying an extra item in inventory
This trick requires two class mods. Once your inventory is full, switch your currently equipped class mod for another one in your inventory (you can then re-equip your original class mod after you have done this). Then, exit the inventory menu to be able to now pick up one additional item, allowing you to have up to 28 items in your inventory instead of the normal maximum of 27.
Good loot farming chest
In the Vault Of The Warrior, you will reach a bridge to walk over the lava (there is a lava fall to the right of the bridge) shortly after entering the area. Jump down the lava hole to the left of the bridge. Once you go down the hole, move forward to find a small cove with a red loot chest on the right. The loot chest contains good items. Once you grab the items, select the 'Save and Quit' option to have the chest refill. Repeat this as many times as desired.
Easy Badass tokens
To easily get Badass tokens early in the game, use the following methods:
Dueling: Defeat players 50 times while dueling to complete this challenge and get 166 total Badass points. To easily do this, have two players unequip any mods and shield from their character. Then, initiate a duel by having one player melee the other player. Take turns defeating each other until both players have 50 duel wins each.
Reviving: Revive a downed player 50 times to complete this challenge and get 166 total Badass points. To do easily do this, have two players that can kill themselves. Find or purchase a Tediore weapon. These weapons are thrown and explode when reloaded. Unequip any mods and shield from your character. Then, stand in a corner, shoot the Tediore gun once, and reload. You will throw the gun into the corner and hurt your character when it blows up. Once you go down, have the other player revive you. Then, have the other player do the same thing with their character. Repeat this until both players have 50 revives each.
Selling: Sell items 50 times to complete this challenge and get 166 total Badass points. To easily do this, go to any vending machine and sell an item, then buy it back for the same price you sold it, and then sell it again. Repeat this until you have completed the 'Wholesale' challenge.
Trading: Trade with another player 50 times to complete this challenge and get 166 total Badass points. To easily do this, have two players keep activating a trade with each other by pressing Circle while standing next to each other. Trades count whether you actually trade anything or not. Simply activate 'Trade' without actually offering anything to still have it count as a trade. Do this 50 times to complete the 'Psst, Hey Buddy..' challenge.
To summon the secret Dexiduous The Invincible Boss, you will need 99 Eridium shards and to have successfully completed all the main story missions in the 'Sir Hammerlock's Big Game Hunt' downloadable content. Then, deposit between 20-25 Eridium shards in the four totems scattered around Hunter's Grotto. Look for a totem with a black furnace full of purple Eridium at its base. The totems are located in the following areas in Hunter's Grotto:
How to use mods in sims 4. Totem 1: It is in the far southern corner of the Grotto, in the slightly more narrow passage with lots of native wall paintings.
Totem 2: Travel west to a tribal camp on a high cliff overlooking the water. It is in the center of the western section of the Grotto.
Totem 3: It is east of the large gap in the map where the first totem was located. Cross over to the eastern section across the gap, and look for a camp in the center with elevator access. Use the elevator, and you will exit out to another camp with the totem out in the open.
Totem 4: It is directly north of the third totem. Travel up to the cliff and jump off, and you will be able to see it near the water and another small cluster of buildings below.
Once you have lit all four totems, travel to the center of the northern section of Hunter's Grotto. Look for a new totem with four lit torches. Pull the lever when you are ready to fight him. Dexiduous The Invincible spawns in the center of a large plain, with only a single rock to mark its location. You will first fight a few waves of enemies, and then Dexiduous The Invincible will appear. Note: If you leave the game or area, you will lose any spent Eridium, and must complete every step to summon Dexiduous again.
Hidden QR code
If you look on Mad Moxxi's pizza boxes, there is a QR code. When you scan the code, it says: 'Wise man say, forgiveness is divine but never pay full price for late pizza. -Captain Picard.'

Defeating The Warrior easily
When you begin the battle with The Warrior, let him immediately kill you. You will then spawn behind a shielded barrier protecting The Warrior. Climb up on the rocks to the left to get above the shielded barrier, allowing you to shoot The Warrior from a distance without him harming you. Note: After defeating The Warrior, leave the area, and return to the area for him to respawn.
Dark Souls Easter Egg
In Caustic Caverns, go to the far eastern area of the map. Once you find the unique Crystalisk monster named Blue, run north across the corrosive green waters to the small island with a lone tree out in the distance. You must be at a high enough level to make it across, as you will take a lot of damage while running across the water. If you are using Salvador (the Gunzerker), you can activate his Gunzerk ability to gain health. On the island, you will find a bonfire. Sitting nearby is a Knight named Solitaire, a reference to the Knight Solaire in Dark Souls. You can also find a phantom spirit.
Dr. Tannis Easter Egg
Dr. Tannis, the Dahl Corporation scientist, could be found riding a fish while a dramatic soundtrack played in Treacher's Landing in the original Borderlands by shooting five barrels in a specific order. This can also be done in Borderlands 2. Fast travel to Sawtooth Cauldron. Go forward, and jump off the cliff to reach Sawtooth Stilts. Then, turn left, and go through Smoking Guano Grotto. You will eventually reach the Main Street Reservoir area. Continue until you are at the very edge of the map, on a beach overlooking the reservoir. Scattered around the beach are five colored barrels. Shoot them in the following order to activate the Easter Egg:
Once you reach Sanctuary Hole after Chapter 9 (it can be accessed from the northeast area of the map in Three Horns Divide), you will find a cliff that drops off into a huge hole on your right behind a building close to the end of the town you go through immediately after entering Sanctuary Hole. It does not look like you can drop off the edge, but there is an area you can drop onto. Drop down to this area to reach the entrance to Caustic Caverns. You can also reach the entrance to Caustic Caverns by progressing through Sanctuary Hole normally. Once you enter Caustic Caverns, go to the 'Guardian Ruins' at the northwest corner of the map. Find the mine carts on the train tracks, and turn right just before you reach the huge door at the end of the train tracks. Then, go straight, jump over the two cube blocks, and immediately turn left to enter a cave with a bunch of Minecraft blocks. Keep smashing the blocks to enter a secret Minecraft area. There are Minecraft style enemies in this area. You can fine a special Minecraft head and skin for your character by defeating the enemies and smashing the blocks in this area. There is a different head and skin dropped in this area for each character. The enemies also drop rare loot. If you do not get the desired head and skin for a character and/or do not like the loot you got, you can choose to 'Save and Quit', and then continue your game to get different loot in this area.
Se7en Easter Egg
Whenever you open a box in The Dust, there is a small chance you will get this special Easter Egg. Inside the box, you will find a gun called 'Neutralizing Gwen' and a female skull. Just as it is opened, Handsome Jack will exclaim; 'What's in the box? What's in the box?' In Se7en, at the climax of the film, there is a famous scene where Brad Pitt yells, 'What's in the box?' when he is faced with a mysterious package. The gun's name, 'Neutralizing Gwen' is a reference to the actress Gwyneth Paltrow who plays Brad Pitt's girlfriend.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Easter Eggs
Once you reach Sanctuary, talk to Dr. Tannis in the Crimson Raiders HQ to unlock the 'Splinter Group' Level 14 side-quest. The description of the mission reads: 'Patricia Tannis has hired you to find and kill four dangerous mutated escapees from the Wildlife Exploitation Preserve. They're hiding out in Bloodshot Stronghold, but be careful; they are well-armed, and color-coordinated.' If the mission is not available, try completing some more story missions, and keep checking back after completing each one until you are given the mission. To gain access to their Sewer hideout, you must pretend to be a pizza deliveryman. Use the intercom, and the sewer grate will open. After jumping down, you will enter the Rat's Nest. Interact with the table ahead to place a pizza to attract the mutants. Once they reveal themselves, you will see their referential names: Lee, Dan, Mick, and Ralph. They are indeed color-coordinated, have shells on their backs, and use the same weapons as their corresponding turtle. Additionally, after turning the mission in, the mission debrief says 'References!' This entire mission is a reference to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, who are four talking turtles that starred in their own series of comics, movies, and cartoons. Each has their own ninja weapon, are color-coordinated, and named after classical Italian painters.
You can also fight an enemy named Flinter by proceeding through the Rat's Nest in Bloodshot Stronghold. Once you reach an area with multiple objects that you can interact with, you must interact with each item a certain number of times in a specific order. Turn the wheel two times, press the button on the TV three times, pull the switch on the ground three times, and then pull the lever on the wall to the right of the switch on the ground three times. After a few seconds, Flinter will appear. He will drop some rare loot once he has been defeated. Flinter is a reference to Splinter from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. He was the four turtles martial arts teacher.
The Lord Of The Rings Easter Egg
To unlock this special event, you must first travel to the starting area in the game; Claptrap's Place. Inside Claptrap's Place, pick up the special hidden item in his fireplace. You must then travel to a special enemy called Geary on the volcano in Eridium Blight. You cannot fast travel to reach Geary or die on your way to him. You must follow a specific path to reach him; you can use vehicles. To reach Geary with the special item, starting from the fireplace where you obtained it, go to each area in the following order: Claptrap's Place, Southern Shelf, Three Horns – Divide, Three Horns – Valley, The Dust, and Eridium Blight. You must then go to the volcano in the north-west area of the map. Travel up the volcano using the ramps to jump over the lava flow to reach Geary. Once you find Geary partially up the volcano, do not attack him. Geary is a psycho bandit that will die with one hit, but will also drop rare purple head items. Thus, you can keep returning and killing Geary to farm rare heads for the characters, as he will always respawn in the same area, even if you do not follow these specific steps to reach him. Let Geary hit you once, but only once. If he hits you more than once, this special event will reset, and you must start over from the beginning. Additionally, Nova/Spike shields will kill Geary and reset this special event. After Geary attacks, he will jump off the cliff into the lava. Then, three Rakks will fly over near you and drop three loot chests. One of the chests will always contain purple loot. You can repeat this special event as many times as desired. This side mission is a reference to The Lord Of The Rings series of books by J.R. Tolkien, in which a hero takes a secret ring from a fireplace and travels to a volcano to dispose of it —- until it is stolen by a psychopath who falls into the lava anyway. The heroes are then rescued by three birds from the erupting volcano.
Top Gun Easter Egg
To get a side mission with a lot of Top Gun references in it, talk to Loggins at Ellie's Garage in The Dust. Loggins is a reference to Kenny Loggins, the musician who recorded the song 'Danger Zone', which was the main theme in the Top Gun movie. In the side mission, Loggins wants revenge against his former flight squad of auto-gyro pilots. Top Gun is all about Air Force pilots. To take revenge, you will need to burn down the squad's volleyball court with a fire-element weapon. In the movie, there is a famous scene in which the pilots play volleyball to Kenny Loggins’ 'Playing With The Boys' song. To reach the area with the volleyball court, you will need to jump off a huge rock to arrive in Goose's Roost. Goose is best friends with Tom Cruise's character in the film.
A Game Of Thrones references ('Tiny Tina's Assault On Dragon Keep' DLC)
Start the 'Winter Is A Bloody Business' quest, which requires you defeat an evil prince named 'Jeffrey', who is a reference to Joffrey. There will be a couple of guards in a throne room that resembles the one in King's Landing. The two guards are named 'Canine' and 'Molehill', a reference to the Hound And The Mountain.
Dark Souls references ('Tiny Tina's Assault On Dragon Keep' DLC)
The 'Lost Souls' side quest contains several references to Dark Souls. An undead hero named 'Crestfallen Player' is waiting near a bonfire and states he has died 'eighty times' and another player keeps invading his game and stealing his souls. Once the souls are retrieved, a glowing red knight named '-=n00b_killer=-' will appear. Kill him, and the Crestfallen Player will say that '-=n00b_killer=-' repeatedly backstabbed him while he drank from his flask. Once the side quest is over, he says 'It can be hard out here on Pandora. You'd better hold onto your humanity as best you can.'
Easy 'Build Buster' trophy
There is a Constructor that always spawns in the Hyperion base in The Highlands. Fight your way through this area until you reach a bridge. During your first playthrough, the Constructor that spawns will be around Level 20. The higher your own level, the easier it will be to destroy it quickly. Shoot the Constructor with a rocket launcher, and throw some grenades at it. If you are using Salvador (the Gunzerker), activate the Gunzerk ability with two rocket launchers equipped to destroy it very quickly. You can make the Constructor respawn by leaving and re-entering The Highlands area, or quitting to the main menu and then continuing.
Easy 'Definitely An Italian Plumber' trophy
Once you reach Eridium Blight and are at a high enough level to handle the enemies, go to the southwest corner of the map near the exit to Hero's Pass (you will pass through a Hyperion gate on the way). Immediately after going through the Hyperion gate, veer off the road to the right, and go up the hill. There will be a lot of Bullymongs and Rakts in this area. Kill them all, and there is a chance that a rare Mong named Donkey Mong will randomly appear. He is a difficult Level 28 enemy that throws barrels. If he does not appear, simply choose to 'Save and Quit', and try again until he appears. Once he appears, kill him to get the 'Definitely An Italian Plumber' trophy. Note: There is also a chance for another rare Mong to appear named King Mong. He is Level 27 and also difficult to defeat. Both Donkey Mong and King Mong drop good loot. Donkey Mong is a reference to Nintendo's Donkey Kong.
Easy 'Feels Like The First Time' trophy
In Arid Nexus - Badlands, go to the northeast area on the map to find Fyrestone. This is the place where the original Borderlands started. Look for a red building in the desert. Get on top of that building to find a red chest. Open the chest to get some good loot and the 'Feels Like The First Time' trophy.
Easy 'Goliath, Meet David' trophy
Low level Goliaths can be found in the Frostburn Canyon area. A good place to find them is at the Blisterpus Camp in the north center area of the map in Frostburn Canyon. You will discover this area automatically by following the story missions. Use the Fast Travel station to quickly reach this area. A Goliath is a humanoid looking enemy with a white, burning mask. They spawn randomly, but there is a good chance to find a bunch of them in Frostburn Canyon -- even if you have already completed this area. To make enemies respawn, you can either leave the area and re-enter it, or quit to the main menu and then choose to continue. Shoot off the Goliath's mask, and he will enter rage mode. You must now protect him so that he can kill enemies. Killing enemies is what gives him XP and makes him level up. Kill the strong enemies that would cause him a lot of harm, and weaken the small ones so he can get easy kills. Once the Goliath reaches the rank of 'Fatal God-Liath' (displayed below his health bar), kill him to get the 'Goliath, Meet David' trophy. Note: It is recommended you do not attempt this until you at least reach Level 15.
Easy 'So Much Blood!' trophy
You can only unlock this trophy with the Gunzerker class. You must Gunzerk continuously for 90 seconds to get the 'So Much Blood!' trophy. To do this, max out 'Filled To The Brim', 'Lasts Longer', and 'Yippee Ki Yay' in the Gunzerker's Rampage skill tree. It also really helps if you have a class mod that increases any of those three skills. Then, find an area with lots of enemies to kill. A good place to try this at is the Bandit's Circle Of Slaughter in The Fridge at Fink's Slaughter Factory. It is recommended you try this once you can easily kill the enemies in this area. All the Bandits in Round 1 are human, so try using fire-based elemental weapons. A quick regenerating shield also helps a lot since you will not have much time to run and hide for a recharge. You must keep getting kills quickly to build and keep your Gunzerker charge. If you are near the end of the round and do not think you will get the trophy, choose to 'Save and Quit', and then continue to try again. If you complete Round 1, you will not be able to play it again unless you enter someone else's game.
Another good area to get the 'So Much Blood!' trophy at that has a lot of low level enemies is in Frostburn Canyon at the Blisterpus Camp in the north center area of the map. Kill as many enemies as possible in the starting area, then move into the cave with the Spiderants.
Easy 'Sugar Daddy' trophy
Once you have $10,000 or more, go to Moxxi at the bar in Sanctuary. Put $10,000 in her tip jar to get the 'Sugar Daddy' trophy. Then, quit the game without saving by exiting to the dashboard using the PS button. When you continue your saved game, you will still have all the money you tipped Moxxi.
Easy 'Thresher Thrashed' trophy
Terramorphous is an enemy that you have to kill during a side mission called 'You. Will. Die. (Seriously.)'. This missions becomes available after competing the game for the first time. Talk to Tannis in the Crimson Raiders HQ (Sanctuary) to start the quest. Then, travel to Thousand Cuts to enter Terramorphous Peak. Entering this area costs four Eridium. Before starting the fight with Terramorphous, it is recommended you are at Level 50 with all SDU's from the black market purchased to carry more ammunition. It helps to have a high Badass rank and some good Level 50 equipment. Try this in Normal mode, and not in Vault Hunter mode. It is much easier to do this in a four player Co-Op game because if you die in solo mode, Terramorphous' health will completely be refilled. It is recommended if you do this in solo mode that you use a Level 50 Gunzerker with two rocket launchers equipped while in Gunzerk mode. Shotguns and slag weapons are also very helpful, especially slag grenades. Since Terramorphous deals heavy damage, you will probably go down a few times. Kill one of the tentacles while in Last Stand mode to automatically get revived. When he comes out of the ground, quickly throw a bunch of slag grenades, and attack him with your strongest weapons. His weak spots are shown as yellow glowing dots. Attack them for critical hits. Jump around a lot to dodge incoming attacks from other tentacles. When you stay behind Terramorphous, he will not be able to attack you. Always walk in big circles around him while keeping some distance. Defeat him to get the 'Thresher Thrashed' trophy, along with some really good loot, including the legendary (orange) 'Slayer Of Terramorphous Class Mod'.
Easy 'Token Gesture' trophy
Use the 'Easy Badass tokens' cheat to quickly get the 'Token Gesture' trophy.
Easy 'Tribute To A Vault Hunter' trophy
Once you reach Sanctuary, you can find Michael Mamaril hanging around some of the town's major landmarks. He can be found inside the Crimson Raider's HQ and near the News Stand, Claptrap's Corner, Zed's Clinic, and other random locations around the city. Once you find him, talk to him, and take the weapon he offers to get the 'Tribute To A Vault Hunter' trophy. You can only get one weapon per visit, but he will reappear after story missions. Try to keep finding him around Sanctuary to get more rewards from him.
Easy 'Well That Was Easy' trophy
In Thousand Cuts, go to the northwest area on the map to find a crazy bandit named Face McShooty (he should appear as '!' on the map) pacing around near the edge of a cliff asking you to shoot him in the face. Accept the 'Shoot This Guy In The Face' mission from him, and then shoot him in the face to get the 'Well That Was Easy' trophy. The commentary from the bandit is also probably a reference to the 'In the face' line from The Hangover movie.
Easy 'What Does It Mean?' trophy
In The Highlands, go to the industrial complex in the southwest area of the map. The entrance is to the north of the 'Highlands - Outwash' map exit. There is also a Catch-A-Ride station infront of the camp, and turrets at the top of the entrance. From there, go straight until you reach a cliff, then go right and up and around the building. Proceed straight until you reach another cliff after going over a bridge. Before going over the bridge, you must fight a Constructor enemy. At the edge of the cliff, look down, and you should see a tent. Get near the tent, and move around it to trigger a double rainbow and get the 'What Does It Mean?' trophy along with some funny commentary by either Claptrap or Jack. This trophy is a reference to the Double Rainbow viral YouTube video. -From: deathmule

Borderlands 2 is a tough game. Tougher than I remember the first game being, in fact. It's also an incredibly large game, with plenty of side quests, challenges and achievements to burn through.
Now that I've finished the game and seen a lot of what it has to offer, I thought I'd lend a hand with a few beginner's tips. Here's what I've got:
1. Have friends
Sorry, recluses. Borderlands 2 is really built for the cooperative experience. Big battles can be a drag, sometimes seemingly impossible, when you solo them.
Each playable character has something unique to contribute, too. The siren suspends enemies in the air, the commando drops turrets, the assassin can go invisible, the gunzerker can dual wield for maximum death dealage. Altogether the four vault hunters are a cohesive team. You'd be remiss to not experience the game with three others. Remiss, and often dead. Very, very often. Which brings me to my next point.
2. Set aside lots of time for those main story missions
You can organize your quest list by main/side missions. This will give you an idea of which might be the lengthiest ones for you to complete.
Some battles have taken me a long time to finish, even with friends. So if you suspect you're about to go on an epic journey to kill that one dude that the other person wanted you to kill, you might want to be sure you have the next hour or so free to do so.
You can't stop mid-quest. Saving and quitting the game will leave you off at that first checkpoint. I made my way all through a bandit camp, reached the boss, and then had to call it a night because it was 1AM and I had work the next day. If you've got a busy schedule, it's something to be mindful of. If it's the weekend and you're in for a marathon and screw it, then feel free to not worry about this tip. I've definitely been there.
3. If you don't have friends, choose your class wisely
Ok, ok recluses. I've heard your groans. If you really must solo this game, I might suggest the commando. His turret is mighty helpful in a tight spot, and its kills can even get you second wind when you're on the ground fighting for your life.
Though he's certainly not my favorite. I'm partial to characters with a flair for magic-like abilities, and the sirens have always been so sexy in Borderlands. I played as Maya, and I wouldn't blame you for choosing her.
The assassin, Zer0, is also a good choice. His action ability makes him swift, and literally invisible. He can set up a decoy to distract enemies. There's nothing wrong with that.
The gunzerker is a brute and can deal massive damage. He's a good second choice if you're dead set on soloing the sequel, specifically because he regenerates ammunition (and health!) while his action ability is activated.
4. Plan out your skill tree, but don't be afraid to respec
There's a nifty little tool for you to build up your character before you hit the game. Don't get stuck building out one tree branch before you realize, 'Dammit, I really want Maya's phaselock ability to deal corrosive, slag and shock damage!' Some trees start off with useful skills, but others will grow into even more useful skills. It's important to look ahead to see which tree overall suits you best.

But even if you do get stuck wanting another route, you can pay to respec your character.

And [small spoilers] you'll get a chance to redo them for free once you unlock new game plus [done with small spoilers].
Each tree will really impact the way you use your character, so definitely get intimate with how each one works.

5. Try out multiple classes
Speaking of classes, don't limit your Borderlands 2 experience to just one. The game plays entirely differently with a new character.
I got so much life out of Borderlands 1, and part of that was to do with experimenting with other classes. I never would have realized just how much I loved Mordecai if I had never played as him. I love sniping, sure, but Bloodwing was a whole other joy I couldn't really appreciate until I played through with that class.
Every character has its benefits. And you know you're going to want another excuse to play.

6. Play loooooooooots of side quests
Don't be in a hurry to get through the main storyline. I know I sometimes get excited to see the story pan out, but it's well worth stretching the experience out for as long as you can.
The story is great. Much better than the first game's, thanks to the addition of new writer Anthony Burch. But the side stories are just as great, and the missions that go along with them finally have that diversity the franchise needed.
They're all fun, and they'll let you explore more of both the planet Pandora itself, as well as its inhabitants, history and culture.
Playing through side quests will also boost your level up, making you tougher for the boss battles to come. I roughed the last boss at around level 27, but I'd really suggest going at it with a higher leveled character, especially if you'll be tackling the game alone.
7. Look for those fancy elemental weapons
There's nothing more satisfying than dropping multiple enemies down to low health, just to watch corrosive acid eat away at the remainder of their health bar. Elemental weapons give you strength, as well as speed. Using a fire-breathing shotgun and others will give you a better handle on crowd control, allowing you to move more quickly on to next threats.
Your instinct might be to look for the gun with the least sway and most damage, but elemental weapons are Borderlands 2's most powerful creations.
Plus, certain enemies are really tough to take down unless you have that magic elemental touch that attacks at their Achilles' heel. Mechs, for instance, can be taken down much easier with corrosive weapons. Varkids—bug-like creatures—hate fire. Get the right combination and you're golden.

8. Take your own vehicle
Part of the beauty of Borderlands is riding around the desert (or other, new environments in the sequel) in a badass vehicle with tons of ammunition.
I know, I know. The vehicles are specifically outfitted for players to join in together. And maybe you don't drive or navigate well, or maybe you can't lock onto targets with a rocket launcher well. In your case, you could probably benefit from having a friend in your car manning the wheel or the gun seat.
But in my case, and I'm sure in many of your cases, you'll want to drive and shoot at things like crazy. Unlimited ammunition and no cooldowns?! Of course I want to do both. Although, if you're playing with three others you'll have to split between the max two-car load-out. Still better than everyone cramming into one four-seater.
With multiple vehicles, you also have greater manpower. So, maybe, take your own vehicle.
9. Spend eridium to max out your gun clips
Ammunition can be tough to come by in Pandora, at least compared to how much of it you're using. There aren't always a decent amount of vendors selling the stuff, or enemies dropping it. Though they do ironically drop lots of money.
You can use the purple currency of eridium at the black market in the game's hub city of Sanctuary to increase your clip capacity. You can also use it to get more room in your bank, but I left that upgrade for last. I much rather be well-equipped on the battlefield, and I didn't find myself stashing too many things early on unless they were too high level for me just then.
10. There's this thing called tokens
Borderlands 2 doesn't do a great job of explaining it to you, but the game has challenges—much like the first one did—that can be redeemed for bonus stats. Challenges include things like killing X amount of skags or opening X amount of loot chests.
The more you complete, the more tokens you get. Tokens can be spent on upgrades to your stats, including gun accuracy, melee damage, shield capacity, maximum health, etc. They're incredibly useful, but by the time I realized they were a thing I had already racked up enough to spend the next 5 minutes allocating them.
Some of these tips might not fit for how you play, but I think all of them are worth considering. I'm sure you'll all come up with your own tips as well, so please feel free to share them.

And happy vault hunting!

Borderlands 2 is an action role-playingfirst-person shootervideo game developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K Games.[4] It is the second game in the Borderlands series and the sequel to 2009's Borderlands. The game was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and OS X on September 18, 2012. It was ported to the PlayStation Vita on May 13, 2014, and released for Linux on September 30, 2014.[1]
Borderlands 2 allows players to complete a campaign consisting of central quests and optional side-missions as one of four (six including downloadable content) treasure seekers, 'Vault Hunters', on the planet Pandora. The game's story centers around the Vault Hunters on their quest to find a new alien vault and liberate Pandora from the tyrannical Handsome Jack. Key gameplay features from its predecessor, such as online collaborative campaign gameplay, randomly generated loot, such as weapons and shields and character-building elements commonly found in role-playing video games are in Borderlands 2.
The game received critical acclaim and was a commercial success. Downloadable content for the game was released, including new characters and storylines. The Game of the Year Edition of the game was released on October 8, 2013 in the U.S. and October 11 internationally, including all the previous downloadable and upgrade packs except for the new campaign.[5][6][7] A PlayStation Vita version was released in May 2014, and was developed by Iron Galaxy Studios in collaboration with Gearbox.[8]PlayStation 4 and Xbox One ports of Borderlands 2 and its DLC were released as part of Borderlands: The Handsome Collection on March 24, 2015.[9]Borderlands 2 had sold over 13 million copies, making it 2K's highest-selling title. A sequel titled Borderlands 3 will be released in September 2019.
Gameplay[edit]
Salvador utilizing his Gunzerker ability to dual-wield weapons
Borderlands 2 is an action role-playing game played from a first-person perspective.[10] The gameplay revolves around the completion of missions and the collection of randomly generated loot (such as weapons, shields, skins, and other items) with various rarities, statistics, and elemental effects. Four playable character classes are available in the base game, each with their own unique abilities and skill trees: Axton, 'the Commando', can summon a turret to provide offensive support. Maya, 'the Siren', can 'phaselock' enemies by trapping them in a sphere of energy for a few seconds. Zer0, 'the Assassin', can temporarily become invisible and spawn a hologram decoy to distract enemies; an attack delivered in this state provides bonus damage. Salvador, 'the Gunzerker', can use his titular ability to temporarily dual-wield weapons.
New gameplay elements added to Borderlands 2 include a trading system during multiplayer play; slag, a substance that increases damage to targets that are covered in it; new 'E-Tech' weaponry; Eridium bars, a new currency for purchasing storage upgrades and other premium items; and the 'Secret Stash,' a small storage area for transferring items between characters. Increased character customization options are also made available, with collectable items unlocking different character head designs, color schemes, and vehicle paint schemes. A major addition to the game is the 'Badass Rank' system; points are awarded for completing various in-game challenges, which in turn award tokens that can be redeemed to increase the player's base stats. These stat improvements apply to all of a single player's characters.
Similarly to the original, completing the main story campaign unlocks 'True Vault Hunter Mode', a New Game Plus which increases the difficulty of the game by making enemies stronger, accordingly improves the probability of finding rare and higher-quality items, and allows the player's character to reach level 50. There is also an 'Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode' that spawns more difficult enemies and further increases the probability of rare item drops. This mode also raises the level cap to level 61 (72 with an additional DLC pack, The Raid on Digistruct Peak).
Plot[edit]Characters[edit]
Like its predecessor, Borderlands 2 features four playable characters: Axton the Commando, Maya the Siren, Salvador the Gunzerker, and Zer0 the Assassin. New to Borderlands 2 are two additional characters available as downloadable content: Gaige the Mechromancer and Krieg the Psycho.
The four player characters from the first game, Roland, Lilith, Brick, and Mordecai, return in the form of non-player characters that the new characters will encounter on Pandora, or in various missions.[11] Other characters like the Guardian Angel and Claptrap return to aid the player during quests. Characters from the first game such as Scooter the mechanic, Dr. Zed, Marcus the guns and ammo merchant, Mad Moxxi, and the insane archaeologist Patricia Tannis join new faces such as the cyborg Sir Hammerlock and Scooter's sister Ellie as quest giving characters.
Setting[edit]
Five years have passed since the events of Borderlands, when the four Vault Hunters, Roland, Mordecai, Lilith, and Brick were guided by a mysterious entity known as 'The Guardian Angel' on the planet of Pandora to the Vault, a mysterious alien structure that was rumored to hold ancient and exotic technology and riches. Instead, these Vault Hunters were confronted by an alien abomination known as 'The Destroyer' inside the Vault. After defeating The Destroyer, a valuable mineral called 'Eridium' started flourishing through Pandora's crust. Handsome Jack, president of the Hyperion Corporation, secures this new resource and makes use of it to attempt to 'bring peace' to the planet. Now, Handsome Jack rules over the inhabitants of Pandora with an iron fist from his massive space station Helios, always visible in the sky in front of Pandora's moon. Meanwhile, rumors of an even larger Vault hidden on Pandora spread across the galaxy, drawing a new group of Vault Hunters to the planet in search of it.
Borderlands 2 Modding Max Eridium AmountStory[edit]
The game opens with six Vault Hunters (Axton, Gaige, Krieg, Maya, Salvador, and Zer0) aboard a train on Pandora. Jack sabotages the train and leaves the Vault Hunters for dead in a frozen wasteland. The Vault Hunters are found by the last remaining CL4P-TP ('Claptrap') unit. The Guardian Angel contacts the Vault Hunters and instructs them to accompany Claptrap to the city of Sanctuary, and to join the Crimson Raiders, an anti-Hyperion resistance movement, in order to defeat Handsome Jack.
Upon arriving at the gates of Sanctuary, the Vault Hunters are asked to rescue Roland, now leader of the Crimson Raiders, who has been captured by a bounty hunter called the Firehawk. The Vault Hunters meet the Firehawk, who turns out to be Lilith, whose powers as a Siren have been significantly enhanced by the new supply of eridium. Lilith informs the Vault Hunters that Roland was actually captured by a group of bandits. After fighting through the bandits' territory, the Vault Hunters rescue Roland and return to Sanctuary.
Roland and Lilith learn that the Vault Key is being transported aboard a Hyperion train, and ask the Vault Hunters to retrieve it. To accomplish the mission, the Vault Hunters enlist the aid of former Vault Hunter Mordecai, and of Tiny Tina, a psychotic, explosives-obsessed girl. The Vault Hunters derail the train, but instead of finding the Vault Key they encounter Wilhelm, a powerful Hyperion cyborg and one of Handsome Jack's enforcers. The Vault Hunters kill Wilhelm and recover his power core, which Roland recommends be used as the power source for Sanctuary's shields. The power core turns out to be a trap; it allows the Guardian Angel, who is actually working for Jack, to lower the city's shields and render it vulnerable to a bombardment from Helios. Lilith saves Sanctuary, which was originally a large spacecraft, by activating its engines and teleporting it away to the sky.
Handsome Jack's plan is to open Pandora's second Vault and unleash the 'Warrior', a powerful monster controlled by whoever releases it; knowing that the Vault Key only charges itself once every 200 years, he uses Angel to forcefully charge it. Angel communicates with the group in Sanctuary, and divulges that the Vault Key is kept with her in a heavily guarded Hyperion facility. The Vault Hunters embark upon a series of missions in order to assemble what is needed to overcome the facility's defenses, including obtaining an upgrade for Claptrap, visiting the Hyperion city of Opportunity, and enlisting the aid of Brick, now leader of the Slab clan of bandits. During the process, Mordecai's pet bird Bloodwing is captured and killed by Jack; Mordecai vows revenge and joins the other three former Vault Hunters at Sanctuary. Roland and the Vault Hunters assault the Hyperion compound and meet Angel, who is not only a real person, but a siren, and Jack's daughter. She requests to be killed in order to stop her father from charging the Vault Key and gaining control of the Warrior. Jack sends in waves of security forces to protect his daughter, but ultimately, Roland, Lilith and the Vault Hunters successfully kill Angel. An enraged Jack teleports in, kills Roland, and captures Lilith, whom he uses to resume charging the Vault Key in Angel's stead. Before Jack can force Lilith to kill the Vault Hunters, she teleports them out of the facility and back to Sanctuary.
Mordecai and Brick decide to learn the location of the second Vault to confront Handsome Jack. While the Vault Hunters travel to the Hyperion Information Annex and obtain the Vault's location, the two steal a Hyperion ship. The Vault Hunters approach on foot, battling Hyperion forces, while Brick and Mordecai are shot down but left alive. Ultimately, the Vault Hunters find and defeat Jack himself but are unable to prevent him from opening the Vault. Jack summons the Warrior, and the Vault Hunters manage to kill it and either execute Jack or leave the task to Lilith in the aftermath.
Brick and Mordecai arrive just as Lilith attempts to destroy the Vault Key. However, she accidentally activates a secret information bank containing a huge map of the galaxy with several Vaults marked on it. Lilith remarks that 'there ain't no rest for the wicked' before the screen cuts to black. During the credits, various scenes are shown of the Pandorans celebrating Handsome Jack's defeat and taking back their planet from the remaining Hyperion forces, the Vault Hunters being hailed as heroes for their deeds, Lilith, Brick and Mordecai mourning Roland, and Mordecai hatching and raising a new pet bird called Talon.
Development[edit]
Following the unexpected[12] success of the first Borderlands, which sold between three[13] to four-and-a-half million copies since release,[14] creative director Mike Neumann stated that there was a chance of a Borderlands 2 being created, adding that the decision 'seems like a no-brainer.'[15] On August 2, 2011, the game was confirmed and titled as Borderlands 2, with Anthony Burch announced as the writer the next day. The first look at the game was shown at Gamescom 2011, and an extensive preview was included in the September edition of Game Informer magazine, with Borderlands 2 being the cover story.[16] Like the first game, Borderlands 2 was developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K Games, running on a heavily modified version of Epic Games' Unreal Engine 3. The game was released on September 18, 2012 in North America and on September 21, 2012 internationally.[17][18]
Gearbox revealed that they would be honoring a late fan of the game, cancer victim Michael John Mamaril, with the addition of an NPC named after Michael in the sequel. Additionally, Gearbox posted a eulogy to Mamaril in the voice of the game character, Claptrap.[19]
Controversy regarding sexism hit a month before the game's scheduled release after Gearbox designer John Hemingway told Eurogamer: 'The design team was looking at the concept art and thought, you know what, this is actually the cutest character we've ever had. I want to make, for the lack of a better term, the girlfriend skill tree. This is, I love Borderlands and I want to share it with someone, but they suck at first-person shooters. Can we make a skill tree that actually allows them to understand the game and to play the game? That's what our attempt with the Best Friends Forever skill tree is.'[20] Gearbox Software president Randy Pitchford responded to the controversy on Twitter, saying 'There is no universe where Hemmingway is a sexist - all the women at Gearbox would beat his and anyone else's ass.'[21] Randy Pitchford also tweeted: 'I'm sure Hemmingway is getting noogied now, but not his fault. A personal anecdote has been twisted and dogpiled on by sensationalists.'[22]
Borderlands 2 Eridium GunsMarketing and release[edit]
Borderlands 2 booth at E3 2012
On August 20, 2012, it was announced that a four issue Borderlands comic would be released in November 2012 to tie in with Borderlands 2. The miniseries was written by Mikey Neumann and published by IDW. It tells the story of how the original four Vault Hunters came to be together at the beginning of Borderlands, filling in their backstory and setting up the events of both games.[23]
Claptrap appears as an opponent in the crossover title Poker Night 2, with players able to unlock new Borderlands 2 content upon the completion of certain objectives.[24]
A 4.6 GB portion of Borderlands 2 became available for pre-load through Steam on September 14, 2012,[25] allowing customers to download encrypted game files to their computer before the game was released. When the game was released, customers were able to unlock the files on their hard drives and play the game immediately, without having to wait for the whole game to download. Borderlands 2 was also available for download on the PlayStation Network on its release date for retail price.[26]
On January 20, 2015, Gearbox announced that it would release Borderlands: The Handsome Collection—a port of Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel! for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, on March 24, 2015.[9]
Patches[edit]
Since its release, several PC patches have been published to address technical issues and improve overall gameplay. On November 13, 2012, patch 1.2.0[27] was released to fix several game issues such as the infinite golden key glitch. The most significant of these is the overpowered 'The Bee' shield which was given reduced capabilities and effectiveness.[28] A patch later added a colorblind mode to the game.[29]
Aspyr handles porting Borderlands 2 patches for the Mac and has stated there will be a delay on synchronizing new patches from Gearbox Software.[30] When the versions are out of sync, Mac users will be unable to join or host games with PC players until both games are on the same version.
On March 28, 2019, Gearbox announced that 4K support for PC would be released on April 3, 2019; supported consoles will receive this via a patch for The Handsome Collection.[31]
Golden Keys[edit]
Golden Keys are a part of Gearbox's SHiFT rewards program. Codes are released on various social media sites that can be redeemed in the Borderlands 2 main menu for Golden Keys. These open the special Golden Chest that is located in the travel station in Sanctuary. When opened, the chest randomly produces rare equipment of the redeeming player's level.[32]
PlayStation VR port[edit]
On October 9, 2018, a port of the game was announced for PlayStation VR, to be released December 14, 2018. It is one of few major games from the pre-VR era to have a VR version made.[33]
Downloadable content[edit]Season one[edit]
Four major packs of downloadable content (DLC) and multiple smaller pieces of content have been made available for Borderlands 2. The Borderlands 2 Season Pass allows users who purchase it to access the first four major DLC packs at a reduced cost compared to purchasing them separately as soon as they become available. Also available are two additional character classes (Gaige the Mechromancer and Krieg the Psycho), an additional area known as the Creature Slaughter Dome, the Ultimate Vault Hunter Pack which raises the level cap and multiple heads and skins for character customization. A 'Game of the Year Edition' containing the main game, all four major DLC packs, the two character packs, and the first Ultimate Vault Hunter Pack was released on October 8, 2013.[34]
Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate's Booty[edit]
Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate's Booty is the first post-release downloadable content pack and includes new campaign content. The content was released on October 16, 2012.[35] The storyline takes place in a vast desert that used to be an ocean. Captain Scarlett, a sand pirate captain, works with the Vault Hunters to search for Captain Blade's Lost Treasure of the Sands, whilst repeatedly informing them that she will eventually betray them. It also introduces new raid bosses like 'Hyperius the Invincible' and a new hovering vehicle, the Sandskiff, which can only be driven in the DLC areas.
The pack received mixed reviews. IGN called it 'a good add-on that doesn't quite live up to expectations', criticising the large number of fetch quests and enemies very similar to the ones found in standard Borderlands 2.[36] However Kotaku called it 'new and exciting', praising the story and the new vehicle.[37]
Mr. Torgue's Campaign of Carnage[edit]
Mr. Torgue's Campaign of Carnage is the second downloadable content pack and was released on November 20, 2012.[38] The campaign's plot is centered around a new Vault discovered in Pandora buried in the center of the 'Badass Crater of Badassitude'[39] that will only open 'once the champion of Pandora feeds it the blood of the ultimate coward'. To find this 'champion', Mr. Torgue, CEO and spokesman of the Torgue weapons manufacturer, sets up a tournament in which the Vault Hunters compete. The new areas also feature a new weapons vending machine, which sells high-end Torgue weapons exclusively and use a new currency called Torgue Tokens.[39] The characters and storyline of Mr. Torgue's Campaign of Carnage bear a strong resemblance to those found in World Championship Wrestling, and Mr. Torgue in particular was interpreted as an homage to wrestler 'Macho Man' Randy Savage.[40][41]
The pack received positive to mixed reviews. Joystiq reported the pack's quest to be unexciting and in some cases 'downright weak'. However it praised the character of Mr. Torgue, referring to him as 'interesting and breathtaking'.[42] Kotaku found it less entertaining than the previous DLC, criticising the repetitive side quests, but ultimately stated that it was 'still an entertaining experience that I'm happy to sink more hours into the game for'.[43] However, Vincent Ingenito of IGN stated that 'everything you love about Borderlands 2 is here in abundance', praising the 'breakneck pace' of the action and length of the campaign.[44]
Sir Hammerlock's Big Game Hunt[edit]
Sir Hammerlock's Big Game Hunt is the third downloadable campaign add-on and was released on January 15, 2013. The title, screenshots, and details were leaked on December 14, 2012.[45][46] It chronicles Sir Hammerlock and the Vault Hunters going on a quest to find rare animals of Pandora and their battle with former Hyperion scientist Professor Nakayama, who is trying to create a clone of Handsome Jack.
The pack received mixed reviews. IGN found it to be the 'weakest add-on Gearbox has put on the table for Borderlands 2 thus far', criticizing unfunny dialogue and the new enemy the Witch Doctor, noting that it is 'exhausting to the point you're better off saving time and ammunition by running away'. They ultimately gave the pack 6.9/10.[47] David Hinkle of Joystiq found the pack to have 'dashed expectations', heavily criticising Nakayama and the quest design. However conversely, Hinkle praised the Witch Doctors, noting that they 'aren't unfairly tough, making them perfect for those late-game battles'.[48]
Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep[edit]
Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep was the fourth piece of downloadable content and final part to be released for free for Season Pass holders. It was released for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 users on June 25, 2013.[49]
The campaign is set within the world of a tabletop role-playing game known as Bunkers and Badasses, with Tiny Tina serving as a game master, sometimes modifying the game world according to her whims. The world is fantasy-themed, with skeletons, orcs, treants (similar to J. R. R. Tolkien's Ents) and dragons featuring as enemies, along with appearances by other Borderlands characters as residents in this world. The campaign's frame story surrounds Tiny Tina's struggle to accept the death of Roland.[50]
Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep was met with praise and acclaim from multiple gaming websites and journalists such as IGN.com's Vince Ingenito, who gave the expansion a 9.2 out of 10, praising its use of the fantasy elements in its narrative, humorous references to the source material, and sheer amount of content, but stated that there was not a good variety of loot to be had from fighting the endgame bosses.[51] Despite this minor issue with the pack, IGN.com scored it much higher than the previous entry, Sir Hammerlock's Big Game Hunt. Despite the acclaim surrounding the pack, there have been mixed reviews as well, such as the review written by Christian Donlan for Eurogamer.net, giving the expansion a 7 out of 10, one point lower than their review of Sir Hammerlock's Big Game Hunt, stating that 'Without spoiling anything: does it work? Not entirely. But it is, unsurprisingly, just the kind of trick one of those special long-running TV shows might try to pull now and then – a bit of heavy-handed schmaltz to break up the glib anarchy, a lunge at tonal variation to bring depth to some increasingly harshly delineated cast members.' Despite the mixed feelings towards the narrative and themes of the pack, Donlan's review also praised the humor and entertainment value of the pack, stating that 'New U stations now babble about necromancy, loot chests can hide mimics and often come with many-sided dice stuck on top, there's a really great joke about punching stuff, and you're carried through it all by that endless ebb and flow between shooting things and picking over their corpses. Is Dragon's Keep fun but lacking surprises?'.[52]
Season two[edit]T.K. Baha's Bloody Harvest[edit]
Gearbox planned to release three, shorter 'Headhunter Pack' DLCs by the end of 2013. The first was called T.K. Baha's Bloody Harvest, bringing back the character last seen in Borderlands's Zombie Island of Dr. Ned DLC. Zombie T.K. Baha sends players to fight Jaques O'Lantern, a giant pumpkin boss who gives new character customizations as a reward for being beaten. It was released on October 22, 2013.[53]
The Horrible Hunger of the Ravenous Wattle Gobbler[edit]
The second Headhunter Pack was released on November 26, 2013 . It is a parody of The Hunger Games and Thanksgiving day in which players have to compete in a tournament organised by Mr. Torgue and defeat a giant turkey monster.[54][55]
How Marcus Saved Mercenary Day[edit]
The third additional 'Headhunter Pack' was released on December 17, 2013. It is about finding Marcus's missing gun shipment train while saving the ex-bandit town of Gingerton from the evil snowman Tinder Snowflake.
Mad Moxxi and the Wedding Day Massacre[edit]
The fourth Headhunter Pack was released on February 11, 2014. It is about Mad Moxxi's plan to have two Goliaths, one from the Zafords and one from the Hodunks, to marry and end the war between their families. A spin on the Shakespearean tragedyRomeo and Juliet, it also features new weather effects and some new enemies.
Sir Hammerlock vs. the Son of Crawmerax[edit]
The fifth, and final Headhunter Pack was released on April 15, 2014. In the DLC, Sir Hammerlock, Brick, Mordecai, and Lilith are on a vacation on Wam Bam Island when a large monster kidnaps Hammerlock. The DLC culminates in a battle against Crawmerax Jr., the son of the great crab worm from the original game's The Secret Armory of General Knoxx add-on, who is seeking vengeance on Roland, Lilith, Brick and Mordecai. The plot introduces Sparky Flynt, son of the boss character Captain Flynt who, along with five other people whose family and friends have been killed by the six new Vault Hunters, seeks revenge. Before they can be introduced in person, separate allies of the Vault Hunters kill (or in Salvador's case, arrange the death of) the five would-be assassins, before Sparky is killed by the Vault Hunters themselves.
Other content[edit]Premiere Club: Mechromancer Pack[edit]
The Premiere Club was a pre-order bonus that comes with golden guns, a relic, a golden key and early access to a fifth playable class, the Mechromancer. The golden key can be redeemed in-game to open a special, golden chest that includes rare guns, shields, or mods. On October 9, 2012, it became publicly available as a downloadable content pack. As of October 17, it was renamed as the Mechromancer Pack.
The Mechromancer, later revealed to be named Gaige, was first revealed at PAX East 2012[56] and planned as post-release downloadable content for October 16, 2012, but was released on all platforms a week earlier.[57]
Psycho and Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack[edit]
On March 23, 2013, Gearbox announced two new downloadable content packs for Borderlands 2, only one of which is part of the Season Pass. The first pack is called the Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack. It adds a level cap raise from 50 to 61 and a new game mode called the Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode. This is a third playthrough mode that supersedes playthrough 2.5 and scales all enemies to level 50-61. It became available on April 2, 2013. It comes as a free download for all players who purchased the Season Pass.[58][59]
The second pack, the Psycho Pack, contains a sixth playable character for Borderlands 2 - a Psycho named Krieg. Psychos are psychotic enemies fought during the main Borderlands 2 campaign. He is a primarily melee focused character with an action skill called 'Buzz Axe Rampage', which boosts his melee damage and causes him to regain health whenever he kills an enemy. It was released on May 14, 2013 and is not included in the Season Pass.[58][59]
Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack 2: Digistruct Peak Challenge[edit]
Released on September 3, 2013,[60] the DLC increases the level cap from 61 to 72 and introduces the Digistruct Peak Challenge, a new map where Patricia Tannis will let players fight high-level enemies (which can be over-leveled to 'impossible') to earn new loot. A free update prior to the DLC's release has added additional backpack, ammo and bank slots, to be purchased from the black market. This is not included in the Season Pass.
Commander Lilith and the Fight for Sanctuary[edit]
Commander Lilith and the Fight for Sanctuary was announced and released on June 9, 2019. The DLC was released for PC, and for The Handsome Collection version of the game on Xbox One and Playstation 4. It was available as a free download for the first month after release.[61] The story of the DLC picks up after the events of Borderlands 2 and acts as a bridge to the story of Borderlands 3, setting up the transition to the new Sanctuary 3 base ship and bringing characters from 2014's Tales from the Borderlands into the bigger story.[62] In the DLC, after Helios station has crashed on the surface of Pandora, Lilith and the other Vault Hunters struggle with what they have learned from the Vault map, of potentially many more Vaults on other planets. As they try to figure out some way to make a space-worthy ship, Sanctuary is attacked by Dahl's Colonel Hector, who has created a powerful mutant army using a strange floral spore. The group abandons Sanctuary and takes shelter at a former bandit camp, now empty except for its leader, Vaughn, as Hector mutated his followers. The Vault Hunters work with Vaughn and other allies to take back Sanctuary and the Vault map from Hector.[63]
Best Way To Farm EridiumReception[edit]
Borderlands 2 was met with critical acclaim. Aggregating review website Metacritic gave the PlayStation 3 version 91/100,[64] the PC version 89/100[65] and the Xbox 360 version 89/100.[66]IGN awarded the game a 9.0 out of 10, praising the game's sense of humor, world structure, and role-playing systems, while feeling disappointed by the game's lack of meaningful visual customization and the sharing of loot during co-op play. They stated that the game had roughly 30 hours of gameplay, and was worth playing multiple times.[73] IGN also nominated the game as one of its ten finalists for Game of the Year 2012.[78]Game Informer gave the game a score of 9.75 out of 10, claiming that the game is one of 'the most rewarding gaming experiences' of the current console generation.[69]Borderlands 2 would go on to win X-Play's game of the year.
Borderlands 2 was one of the best-selling games of 2012, and has become the best-selling game in the history of 2K Games, with 8.5 million copies sold by February 2014.[79] The following month, it was announced by Gearbox that the game had sold 'well over' 12 million copies.[80] As of August 2015, the game has sold over 13 million copies, making it 2K's highest-selling title.[81] The title had reached over 20 million sold with at least 1 million players playing the game each month as of April 2019, and remains the highest-selling title of the series.[82]
Borderlands 2 was nominated for five awards at the 2012 Spike TV Video Game Awards: 'Best Xbox 360 Game', 'Best PS3 Game', 'Best Shooter', 'Best Multiplayer Game', and 'Best DLC' (Psycho Pack). Actor Dameon Clarke was also nominated in the 'Best Performance By a Human Male' category for his role as Handsome Jack. Finally, Claptrap was included in the viewer's choice 'Character of the Year' category.[83]Borderlands 2 would go on to win 'Best Shooter',[84] 'Best Multi-Player Game',[85] 'Best Performance by a Human Male',[86] and 'Character Of The Year'.[87]Borderlands 2 wound up with five D.I.C.E. Awards nominations at the 16th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards, including 'Game of the Year', 'Action Game of the Year', 'Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction', 'Outstanding Achievement in Online Gameplay', and 'Outstanding Achievement in Character' for the characterization of Tiny Tina. At the ceremony, the game won only one award for 2012's 'Action Game of the Year'.[88]
The PlayStation Vita port received mixed reviews. While complimented for offering the entire game and additional content on a handheld console, the port was generally panned for its decreased graphics and sound quality, lag issues and inconsistent frame rates, and that it only offered two-player multiplayer rather than four. IGN gave the port a 5.4 out of 10, concluding that 'its compromised visuals rob it of much of its bombastic charm, while its erratic performance and unreliable touch controls keep the gameplay from shining like it has in the past.'[89][90]
Sequel[edit]
Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford stated in February 2014 that there were no plans for a third, main installment in the franchise; the company believed that a sequel to Borderlands 2 would have to be 'massive', but that 'when you think of what Borderlands 3 should be.. No, we don't know what that is yet. We can imagine what it must achieve, but we don't know what it is yet.' However, the company still believed that there was an audience for new Borderlands content; in April 2014, Gearbox announced that 2K Australia was developing a game set in between the events of the first two Borderlands games, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel!, released October 14, 2014. The game focuses on the rise of Handsome Jack, and features four of his henchmen—Athena (from The Secret Armory of General Knoxx DLC), Claptrap, Nisha (Lynchwood's sheriff from Borderlands 2), and Wilhelm (a Hyperion cyborg who was a boss in Borderlands 2)—as playable characters.[91][92][93]
At a panel during PAX South in January 2015, Pitchford announced that the studio was preparing to begin work on a new Borderlands game—which he described as 'the big one', and began to offer a number of new staff openings related to the game. The game will be developed specifically for eighth-generation consoles such as the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.[94] Randy Pitchford confirmed at the April 2016 PAX East convention that a Borderlands sequel will be Gearbox's next game after Battleborn, though he is not sure if it will be called Borderlands 3.[95] Pitchford and Randy Varnell said they would put Easter eggs to the next Borderlands in the DLC for Battleborn.[95]Borderlands 3 was officially revealed on March 28, 2019 and will come out on September 13, 2019 on the Epic Games store and six months later, will appear on other store fronts such as Steam.[96]
